About The Position

The University of Hawai'i (UH) Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) invites qualified, dynamic and dedicated individual to apply for a tenure-leading, full-time, 11-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor under the UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center (THSSC). The UH THSSC brings real-life scenarios to the classroom so that students can gain the experience, confidence and skills they need to provide quality care. The center integrates state-of-the-art equipment, electronic patient records and practices currently used by the state's leading medical centers. The position is expected to begin approximately June / July 2025 or as mutually acceptable.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or PhD degree with appropriate clinical board certification.
  • Current unrestricted RN license to practice in Hawai'i.
  • Relevant board certification or qualification in the clinical discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time work experience in the management and administration of a healthcare simulation program.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of simulation technology for healthcare education.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
  • Demonstrated understanding of assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated competency in interprofessional teamwork and team science.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to meet and confer with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Record of progressive responsibility in a healthcare setting(s).
  • Certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE) - Advanced.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Translational Health Sciences Simulation Center (THSSC/Center), providing leadership, administration and operational management.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of simulation-based education.
  • Engage in clinical simulation instruction of nursing and other health science faculty and students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to design, develop, conduct and evaluate new courses and educational initiatives.
  • Ensure existing courses and initiatives meet current standards of healthcare practice.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and integration of patient simulation technology.
  • Provide instruction/guidance and remedial sim lab activities to students.
  • Advance awareness of THSSC through public events and community outreach.
  • Monitor the latest research and trends in patient simulation.
  • Engage in research/scholarly projects consistent with the Department/Schools goals.
  • Disseminate scholarship via presentations and peer-reviewed published manuscripts.
  • Provide service to the School/University and the Profession.
  • Oversee the Center's finances and manage the budget.
  • Supervise Center team members and manage staff workflow.
