About The Position

The Great Texts Program in the Honors College at Baylor University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Philosophy to start in August 2025. This full-time, tenure-track position is designed for candidates specializing in ancient philosophy, medieval philosophy, or early modern philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach primary texts of literature, philosophy, and theology, engaging undergraduates with diverse academic and vocational interests. The teaching load for this position is 2/2, which includes regular teaching of general education coursework, upper-level courses required for the major, and occasional electives. Faculty members in the Great Texts Program enjoy the benefits of being part of a liberal arts honors college within an R1 institution. They are expected to have an outstanding publication record in highly regarded academic journals and university presses, and to be excellent teachers committed to engaging students in active discussions about moral, spiritual, and historical issues in conversation with great books. The students in the Great Texts Program, including high-achieving Honors Program students and University Scholars, are earnest and inquisitive, with many pursuing postgraduate studies in law, ministry, healthcare, and the humanities. Baylor University, located in Waco, Texas, is the oldest college in Texas and has a diverse student population of 21,000. It has been recognized as one of the top universities in the nation and was named an R1 institution by the Carnegie Classification in January 2022. Baylor is also featured on the honor roll of the 'Great Colleges to Work For' by The Chronicle of Higher Education, offering competitive salaries and benefits while allowing faculty and staff to live in one of the fastest-growing areas of the state. The university's strategic plan, Illuminate, guides its mission of educating men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community.
