About The Position

The Criminology Program invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor appointment for the Academic Year 2025-2026, specialization open. Preferred candidates will be those able and willing to teach Criminological Theory and other elective courses in their area of specialization. The Department is seeking faculty to participate in collaborative efforts to foster teaching effectiveness, assessment of student learning, creative scholarship and research, and those interested in developing new course offerings. Successful applications will be required to support the Department and the University's mission through teaching, scholarship and research activities, and service.

Requirements

• demonstrated record of effectiveness as an instructor for a variety of courses or teaching environments
• ability to teach at the undergraduate level
• commitment to continued development as an educator
• active engagement in high-quality research

Responsibilities

• supporting student learning, retention, persistence, and program completion
• completing professional development
• teaching assigned courses that may include day, evening, online, or hybrid courses
• teaching at either the Lincoln Park or Chicago Loop campuses as needed
• posting and holding office hours
• maintaining and improving competence in the subjects taught
• advising students about career opportunities
• conducting research or producing scholarly works in the area of criminology or criminal justice
• seeking opportunities to engage students in research activities
• presenting at professionally recognized venues
• sharing one's scholarship and research activities through peer review journals or other professionally recognized publication types
• support of student organizations or activities
• participation in Department, College, and University committees
• work supporting local, state, national agencies or communities
• participation and leadership in professional organizations as appropriate to the discipline
