The Assistant Professor of Sociology position at Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a non-tenure track role focused on teaching, service, and scholarship within the Sociology Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses, including SOC 470/870 Grant Writing, SOC 671 Program Development and Evaluation, and SOC 677 Internship: Advanced Grant Writing, primarily in an online format. Additionally, the candidate may occasionally teach on-campus versions of these courses and other general education courses such as SOC 680 Nonprofit Organizations, SOC 140 Understanding Society: Introductory Sociology, SOC 145 Cultural Anthropology, and SOC 384 Social Problems as needed. The role emphasizes professional development in teaching, supported by FHSU's Teaching Innovation and Learning Technology (TILT) unit. The faculty member will administer the Sociology's Grant Proposal Writing and Program Evaluation 9-credit certificate, serve as a mentor to sociology majors pursuing grant writing and nonprofit development certificates, and share in the advising of graduate students. The position also involves promoting grant writing curriculum across campus and expanding programming in Sociology's Center for Grant Writing and Nonprofit Development. This includes offering consulting services in grant writing and nonprofit development, potentially in collaboration with FHSU's Professional and Continuing Education office and the Docking Institute of Public Affairs. The job is structured with a focus on teaching (70% weight), service (20% weight), and scholarship (10% weight). The candidate is expected to demonstrate professionalism, collegiality, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and the university's mission.
