About The Position

The University of North Dakota's Department of Sociology is seeking a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the sociology of technology and/or science. The position is set to begin on August 16, 2025, contingent on funding availability. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a mix of face-to-face and online courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, while also establishing a productive research agenda and contributing to the department's service commitments.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Sociology by August 15, 2025.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to engage with diverse students and colleagues.
• Ability to adapt to current teaching methods, including online delivery.
• Ability to independently conduct sociological research and publish findings.

Nice To Haves

• Track record of conducting independent research in sociology, particularly in technology and society or sociology of work.
• Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses.
• Experience teaching online courses.
• Experience working on externally funded grants.

Responsibilities

• Teach a 3/2 course load, including face-to-face and online courses related to research methods, statistics, technology and society, and other specialty areas.
• Establish a productive research agenda and secure external funding.
• Contribute to service within the department, college, university, and professional community.
• Mentor and inspire students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
