About The Position

The College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a full-time grant-funded 10-Month Assistant Professor of School Counseling to support the implementation and sustainability of an Accelerated Pathway to School Counseling. This innovative pathway provides advanced standing opportunities for qualified undergraduate students to begin graduate-level coursework and transition seamlessly into the CACREP-accredited MS Counseling program. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, clinical supervision, student mentorship, grant deliverables, and program development initiatives that strengthen recruitment, retention, and successful matriculation into the School Counseling concentration. This is a grant-funded position through June 30, 2027, or other date as determined by administration.

Requirements

• Earned doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in Counselor Education & Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program (or demonstrated alignment with CACREP core faculty requirements).
• Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois
• Demonstrated commitment to experiential and student-centered pedagogy.
• Ability to teach across multiple CACREP core curricular areas.
• Experience working collaboratively with diverse faculty and students representing a broad range of identities and lived experiences.
• Proficiency in instructional technology and online/hybrid teaching platforms.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to teach in two or more of the eight (8) CACREP core areas.
• Experience as a practicing school counselor and/or clinical counselor.
• Prior teaching experience in counselor education.
• Experience supporting accelerated, bridge, or advanced standing academic pathways.
• Experience with CACREP accreditation processes, assessment systems, and/or program administration.
• Experience working on externally funded grants or workforce development initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Teaching & Clinical Supervision Teach core graduate-level counseling courses within the School Counseling concentration, including both didactic and clinical instruction.
• Supervise practicum and internship students in accordance with CACREP standards and Illinois state requirements.
• Support accelerated/advanced standing students enrolled in graduate-level Accelerated Pathway coursework.
• Teach or coordinate co-requisite and/or seminar courses designed to support provisionally admitted or accelerated pathway students.
• Incorporate experiential, developmentally scaffolded, and culturally responsive teaching methods.
• Accelerated Pathway & Grant Implementation Support implementation of the Accelerated/ Pathway to School Counseling, including:
• Recruitment and outreach to undergraduate populations
• Participation in admissions review and pathway advising
• Monitoring academic progress and retention benchmarks
• Supporting transition of Pathway students into full graduate standing
• Assist with tracking grant-related metrics (e.g., enrollment, persistence, stipend eligibility, matriculation rates).
• Contribute to grant reporting, documentation, and assessment processes in collaboration with program leadership.
• Student Advising & Mentorship Advise and mentor accelerated and traditional graduate students.
• Support students in navigating licensure pathways (LCPC or license eligible).
• Provide academic and professional development guidance aligned with CACREP and state credentialing standards.
• Participate in remediation and gatekeeping processes in alignment with program policy.
• Service & Scholarship Engage in university, college, and program-level service.
• Maintain active membership and involvement in relevant professional organizations (e.g., state, regional, and national counseling associations).
• Participate in scholarly and professional activities consistent with faculty expectations.
• Contribute to ongoing CACREP compliance, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
