About The Position

The Assistant Professor position in Scenic Design, Paint and Props Artisanry, and Technical Theatre at Western Connecticut State University is a tenure-track role for the academic year 2025-2026. Requirements

• MFA in Scenic Design is required.
• Three years of full-time service in a college or university at a rank of Instructor or above.
• Professional experience in scenic design, paint, and props artisanry, and technical theatre is desired.
• Evidence of at least three years of successful college teaching experience and departmental service.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in scenic design, scenic painting, prop construction, and technical theatre.
• Design for the annual season of productions.
• Oversee the paint and props area and mentor student prop managers and scenic charges.
• Assist in shaping the BFA curriculum in Design/Technology.
• Participate in recruitment efforts in the Design/Tech area.
• Collaborate with the Technical Director to oversee scenic, paint/props, and tech crews.
• Participate in department, university, and professional service activities.
• Serve as an academic advisor.
