About The Position

Assistant Professor or Instructor of Rhetoric and Professional Writing - (One-Year Temporary) SVSU invites applicants for a one-year, temporary position to be hired either as an Assistant Professor of RPW, with a completed Ph.D. by the time of appointment, or as an Instructor of RPW, if ABD. This one-year temporary position begins July 1, 2026. Teaching responsibilities are in-person, on-campus (24 credit hours/year), with some limited opportunities for online teaching. Anticipated course load includes an introductory professional writing course for business majors as well as upper-level courses in rhetorical theory, instruction writing, and writing for community organizations. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate fully in department planning, assessment, and recruitment activities.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Technical Communication, Composition and Rhetoric or a closely related field to be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will be considered for the rank of Instructor.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching introductory through advanced writing courses
  • Experience teaching and mentoring a broad spectrum of undergraduate students
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations
