About The Position

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is recruiting an outstanding candidate to further develop its excellent research program. We seek a PhD scientist with the ability to build and maintain an internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program. The division is looking for a faculty member who is focused on one or more of the following areas\: behavior change, implementation science, population health, health disparities, clinical research informatics, health services research, palliative care and substance abuse. Valued assets include scientific accomplishment and drive, backed by primary research publications, collaborative and interpersonal skills and peer-reviewed extramural funding consistent with seniority. Strong mentoring experience/skills are also very important for this position. Additionally, this role will have a leadership opportunity for strategic funding and resource development with evidence-based programs within the unit. This role will have opportunity for academic promotion judged on criteria of demonstrated excellence as a scholar.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain an internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program
  • Lead GIM’s strategic funding agenda, including federal, state, foundation, corporate, and philanthropic opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major funders, program officers, and strategic partners.
  • Oversee the development of competitive proposals, ensuring alignment with funder priorities and institutional strengths.
  • Create multi‑year funding pipelines and forecasting models to support long‑term research growth.
  • Guide teams in developing budgets, sustainability plans, and compliance strategies for large‑scale awards.
  • Cultivate strategic collaborations with universities, industry partners, government agencies, community organizations, and consortia.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, advisory groups, and strategic convenings to elevate visibility and influence.
  • Negotiate partnership agreements that support shared research goals and resource leverage.
