The School of Psychological Science (SPS) at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Psychology position with a scholarly focus on Human-Robot or Human-AI interaction. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is part of a strategic interdisciplinary hiring initiative to recruit faculty members in the area of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Faculty hired through this initiative will join a collaborative cohort with dedicated support structures designed to foster their success, including mentoring, community-building, and cross-college research opportunities. The individual hired for this position would have opportunities to contribute to existing strengths of SPS such as human factors, virtual reality, digital psychotherapeutic interventions, disability studies, and open science practices. There are opportunities to teach a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses in Corvallis and online, especially in Research Methods, Quantitative Methods, or Human-Computer Interaction.

  • Conduct an active program of research in an area of specialization leading to the production of scholarship in the form of articles in refereed journals, books, monographs, conference presentations, and other similar scholarly products.
  • Teach 4-5 classes each academic year, on a quarter system.
  • Mentor PhD students.
  • Provide service to the School, College, and University in the form of committee work and participation in program reviews and assessments.
  • Engage in service to the broader professional community through attendance and presentations at meetings, manuscript, grant, and award reviewing, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Holds Ph.D. in Psychology, Psychological Science, or closely related field by start date.
  • Has an active, productive, and fundable research program in psychological science including a record of scholarship.
  • Has demonstrated potential for excellent, inclusive graduate and/or undergraduate teaching.
  • Record of successful, externally funded interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary collaborative research.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in course development.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in inclusive teaching.
