About The Position

The department of Physics and Biophysics at Augusta University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. All conventional areas of physics shall be considered though some emphasis will be given to applicants that can contribute to the Biophysics areas and work well within a top ranked health sciences university. The department has diverse activities that include sensor development, materials sciences, and atomic physics in support of the Bachelor of Science degree program in the department. Members of our department work collaboratively both across the university, nationally, and worldwide. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, novel research program, display a commitment to excellence in teaching by participating in graduate and/or undergraduate student teaching. Scientists in the Department work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment fostered by interactions across the many science and medical disciplines. Research areas of interest are in conventional physics areas, with some preference to biophysics.

Requirements

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)¿s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibilities include lecture and or lab courses within the undergraduate degree program in physics and also core science courses including astronomy. The minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics or closely related field. This may include laboratory maintenance.
  • Teach classes during the academic year as assigned by the Dean, to include all of the duties and obligations expected of a college professor not limited to, but including grading, maintaining regular office hours, class preparations, and following university policies regarding teaching.
  • The candidate is expected to develop an independent, novel research program, display a commitment to excellence in the research area by successful grant and publication record. In addition, added collaborations with other researchers, publish results, and co-author grants.
  • Service to the university entails work on department, college, and university committees, work groups, and/or campaigns in order to promote and support Augusta University's mission.
