About The Position

The University of Dayton’s School of Education and Health Sciences invites applications and nominations for a full-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. This will be a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. The successful candidate will be a physical therapist with an academic doctorate (PhD preferred) in a field with relevance to physical therapy, with the ability to teach basic and clinical sciences. Position responsibilities will include teaching within the highly collaborative Doctor of Physical Therapy program, scholarly activity (e.g., national conference presentations, manuscript publications) within area of expertise at a level consistent with Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) expectations and the university as related to tenure track appointment, and service at the program, department, school, university, community and profession levels. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the existing department faculty in curricular development, innovative teaching strategies, course delivery and student advisement. Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible for physical therapy licensure in Ohio
  • At least one year of physical therapy clinical experience
  • Possess an earned academic doctorate (e.g., PhD, EdD, DHSc, etc.) by July 1
  • Evidence of research productivity (peer-reviewed abstracts or publications)
  • Articulated scholarly agenda demonstrating ongoing independent research
  • Articulated potential for excellence in teaching
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Articulated affinity for the values and charisms central to Marianist education

Nice To Haves

  • Certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties
  • Post-doctoral research training
  • Full-time experience as a faculty member in an accredited physical therapist education program
  • Demonstrated record of successful teaching courses using traditional and active learning formats
  • Demonstrated scholarly production resulting in peer-reviewed publications in top tier journals and external funding
  • Experience in curriculum and program review
  • Experience in program development
  • Experience in academic advising and mentoring of graduate students from socially and culturally diverse communities
  • Active member of the American Physical Therapy Association
