About The Position

The Assistant or Associate Professor of Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery will provide comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for patients with sinonasal disease. Clinical responsibilities include the medical and operative management of rhinologic conditions, such as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), septoplasty, turbinate reduction, nasal reconstruction, and the treatment of anterior skull base disorders. The faculty member will join a clinically active and academically productive Rhinology and Skull Base Division, collaborating closely with two rhinology surgeons and a multidisciplinary team of skull base neurosurgeons. Practice sites will include the University of Kansas Health System, as well as our affiliated sites of the Kansas City VA, and University Health Medical Center all in Kansas City.

Requirements

  • Board certified/eligible in Otolaryngology.
  • Must have successfully completed or in process of completing fellowship training in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in basic science or translational research and are interested in a clinician-scientist position based off of application materials.
  • Experience in educating residents, medical students and fellows and engaging in scholarly activities.
  • Currently holds or has the potential for securing competitive external funding based off of application materials.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in clinical, basic science or translational research in the area of Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery.
  • Lead research projects, applying for intramural and extramural funding.
  • Mentor residents, fellows and medical students and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide outpatient and surgical services at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the Kanas City Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and Truman Medical Center.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Establish a basic science or translational research laboratory and a successful research program in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery.
  • Provide billing information to the billing office within one day of outpatient clinic or surgery and close all patient encounters within 96 hours.
  • Abide by the Medical Staff by-laws of the University of Kansas Medical Center/University of Kansas Health System and contracted facilities.
