About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks an Ophthalmologic Hospitalist to provide comprehensive inpatient ophthalmology consultation services for the Emergency Department and hospitalized patients. This full-time position will operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and serve as the central point of coordination for inpatient eye care across multiple hospital services. The physician will perform bedside ocular evaluations, coordinate subspecialty consultations, and ensure timely ophthalmic management for patients admitted throughout the hospital system. Clinical duties include providing consultation for the Emergency Department, inpatient, and ICU patients, coordinating care with subspecialty services such as retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, and cornea, and performing procedures that include ocular trauma assessment, removal of ocular surface foreign bodies, culture and management of corneal infections, and anterior chamber paracentesis for various forms of glaucoma.

Requirements

  • M.D. Degree from an accredited program
  • Additional training and/or experience in the evaluation of the retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, and cornea
  • A current Texas state license is required
