About The Position

The Online Department of Online Counselor Education at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month tenure-track assistant professor faculty position to join our community starting in August 2026. Tenure-track faculty members must be available for on-campus meetings commonly associated with service. The successful candidate will serve as a core counselor education program faculty member who is responsible for engaged research, effective online teaching, advising, professional activity in the field of counseling (sustained memberships in counseling associations, maintenance of certifications and/or licenses in counseling, sustained professional development and service to the profession), and service to the Department and the College. Teaching responsibilities will include six courses over the academic year (fall and spring terms). Our program has three 15-week sessions with two 7-week terms within each. All faculty are required to have an independent clinical license in their state of residence, more than two years of full-time clinical practice experience outside of academically required experiences, and commit to maintaining small active clinical practice while faculty. Priority will be given to people with more extensive clinical experience, experience in a community behavioral health agency, and/or a supervision credential. Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education, demonstrated through, for example, culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship. We are an innovative and rapidly growing online department of counselor education, leading the nation as the first program to offer a federally approved apprenticeship pathway in clinical mental health counseling. Our team is professionally driven, collaborative, and committed to pioneering new approaches in counselor preparation. We seek a colleague who is energized by growth, creative problem-solving, and advancing the profession through bold, student-centered innovations. This role is for someone eager to actively contribute to program development, community partnerships, and the evolving apprenticeship model. If you thrive in dynamic, forward-thinking environments, we would be excited to work with you. TCNJ has a strong commitment to inclusive excellence in our community and to supporting a healthy work-life balance for our faculty. Candidates should be strongly committed to high quality online teaching and to fostering success for all students. Faculty will be expected to join a community committed to exploration and growth in pedagogical practices. TCNJ supports its community of teacher-scholars and practitioners through a range of internal grant programs, professional travel, engaging professional development programs, and other mechanisms. These intentional efforts support the recruitment, retention, and success of our faculty, including those from groups traditionally underrepresented in academe. Candidates should be strongly committed to the teacher-scholar model, to maintaining both high quality teaching and an active and productive program of scholarship. Faculty members are encouraged and supported in seeking external funding consistent with this mission.
