About The Position

The University of Northern Colorado invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Theatre for a tenure track position in Design and Technology with specialties in Scenic and Projection Design starting Fall 2026. We seek an ambitious, energetic, and quality driven teacher to join one of the nation's top undergraduate Theatre programs. This position will teach 3 classes per semester. Classes may include Projection Design and Technology, Scene Design and Technology, Digital Rendering, Introduction to Design, and/or Drafting for Stage. Executing one design per semester may be included in lieu of one class each semester. This person will be tasked with continuing the development of our emerging projection for theatre emphasis, as well as re-envisioning the established scenic emphasis which includes scenic design, technical directions, properties, and scene painting. Additionally, participation in University service and professional activity is expected.

Requirements

  • MFA in Theatre Design and Technology completed by the start of employment
  • Experience in projection design in professional and academic theatre settings
  • Experience in scenic design in professional and academic theatre settings
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from differing levels of theatrical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Membership in professional theatre unions and associations such as USA, IATSE, USITT
  • Experience teaching Theatre at the collegiate level

Responsibilities

  • Teaching design and technology skills in both broad and specialized areas of technical theatre
  • Designing in the candidate's area(s) of specialty as part of an ambitious academic season
  • Formal classroom teaching as well as mentored teaching of design students
  • Continuing the development of our emerging projection for theatre emphasis
  • Re-envisioning the established scenic emphasis which includes scenic design, technical directions, properties, and scene painting
  • Participation in University service and professional activity
