About The Position

The Department of Teacher Education at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education – Special Education to begin Winter 2026. Qualified candidates will support, sustain, and expand our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. We seek a colleague who possesses experience working with a broad population of stakeholders from a variety of school contexts who can engage in the culture of teaching, scholarship, and service within the College of Education, the university, and the surrounding community. Additionally, we seek a colleague who will actively contribute to the success of our students, engage in the collaborative and interdisciplinary work of faculty, and advance the mission of our program, college, and university. Responsibilities for the position will include teaching undergraduate, graduate, and dual-level courses in face-to-face and virtual formats, advising students, maintaining an active scholarship agenda, and engaging in service within and outside of the university.

Requirements

  • Earned Doctorate in Special Education, or a related field (A.B.D. candidates will be considered and are invited to apply).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience teaching students with IEPs (ages 3–21) in special education settings, including school, community, or transition programs.
  • Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching, mentoring, supporting, and providing feedback to pre-service and/or in-service teachers.
  • Experience in using digital technologies for teaching and assessment.
  • Experience with designing curriculum and differentiating instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Experience designing undergraduate and/or graduation coursework in special education.
  • Evidence of service to department, college, community, and profession.
  • Evidence of scholarship related to special education.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education and Michigan standards for teacher preparation.
  • Knowledge of accreditation and program assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate, graduate, and dual-level courses in face-to-face and virtual formats.
