About The Position

Carson-Newman University is a Christian, liberal arts-based University built upon the Lordship of Jesus Christ as evidenced historically and revealed in the Scriptures. Candidates for the position will teach courses in the Human Services major within the Sociology Program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach (12 hours per semester) on campus, advise and mentor students, serve on committees, and demonstrate an active interest in personal and professional development. Candidates will be expected to teach either introduction to sociology or social problems in the Liberal Arts Core.

Requirements

  • All employees are required to be a professing Christian.
  • Evidence of an active role in a local church is expected and employee can advance our Christian mission.
  • Doctorate in Sociology, or a terminal degree in a related human services field

Nice To Haves

  • A doctorate and teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a 12 hour load each semester
  • Serving as an academic advisor to students in the Sociology and Human Services programs.
  • Serving on faculty committees as assigned by the Chair of Faculty Council.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Participating in academic conferences
  • Assisting in evaluating the course offerings and course requirements of the Human Services program and the Sociology major
  • Participating in student recruitment events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics
