About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Assistant Professor of Social Psychology to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track assistant professor (9-month faculty position). Primary duties will include engaging in original research that leads to peer-reviewed presentations and publications in scholarly outlets; teaching a variety of psychology undergraduate and graduate courses, including social psychology. Teaching load: 12 SCH for the 1st and 2nd academic years; 15 SCH for the 3rd academic year, and 18 SCH for the 4th-6th academic years; actively pursuing external research grant funding to maintain a sound research agenda. Duties also include serving on departmental, university, and professional committees; and actively participating in department, college, and university initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Psychology or closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered but must have earned a doctorate before the start of the fall 2026 semester).
  • Strong record of or potential for sustained publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Potential for or prior experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding.
  • Desire to work with different student populations.
  • Ability to teach in areas that advance, complement or strengthen the programs.
