About The Position

The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sedimentology and Stratigraphy within the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences, starting in August 2025. The successful candidate will focus on data-driven teaching and research in stratigraphic aspects of energy transition geoscience, utilizing field techniques and computational approaches to sedimentary basin analysis, tectonics, and resource geology. The role includes a full-time teaching load, departmental service, and the development of a vibrant research program involving both undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements

• A doctoral degree in Geology or a closely related field by the appointment date.
• Demonstrated experience teaching large introductory and smaller upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses.

• Commitment to exceptional teaching at the college level beyond teaching assistantship duties.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geology, sedimentary petrology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, and basin analysis.
• Engage in departmental faculty meetings and provide departmental service.
• Participate in undergraduate and graduate committees.
• Assist in increasing visibility and student participation in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences' academic programs.
• Develop a well-funded research program involving graduate and undergraduate students.
