About The Position

The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) Department of Business and Public Administration invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Administration. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the academic mission of a dynamic university located in Southeast Alaska. The University of Alaska Southeast is seeking a tenure-track faculty member for Fall 2026 who will teach primarily online courses in our Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Business Administration programs. We seek a candidate with demonstrated potential for creative and effective teaching in a virtual environment. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to support and enhance our campus commitment to cultural safety. The candidate should be able to create environments that promote belonging and respect for people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Our new colleague is expected to engage with students and actively participate in departmental activities that support both the graduate and undergraduate programs. These activities include, but are not limited to, assurance of learning and curriculum discussions, faculty meetings, and departmental events. The Master of Public Administration (MPA) is a professional leadership degree for individuals interested in public service careers or other mission-oriented fields. The MPA program prepares students to be competent, ethical, and effective public and nonprofit administrators and leaders for a diverse and changing workforce and citizenry. The MPA program is committed to practitioner-oriented instruction, flexible and convenient online learning, and offering courses relevant to students in the State of Alaska and the Yukon Territory. The MPA is designed to help students develop the skills and techniques that leaders and managers use to implement, and evaluate policies, projects, and programs that promote ethical and democratic governance while addressing organizational, human resource, and budgetary challenges. The nine-month bipartite appointment carries a 4/4 teaching load, and is evaluated on teaching and service, but not research, scholarship, and creative activity. The ability to teach general courses in public administration is essential. Areas of teaching may include Leadership, Ethics, Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, Public Policy and other program classes as fits the candidate's specialty. We are seeking a colleague who is interested in collaborating with community partners and providing our students with opportunities for experiential and place-based learning. Most of our students are in-service professionals who actively work with community partners throughout Alaska and beyond. Therefore, a candidate with formal job experience as a practitioner in the government or nonprofit sector would be a strong contender. The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing projects and relationships with local and state governments that impact both our students and our communities. Remote candidates in Alaska who can still meet these objectives will be considered. The Assistant Professor is dedicated to fostering a safe, supportive, and open environment at the University of Alaska Southeast. We prioritize access to resources and opportunities for all individuals to reach their full potential, recognizing the importance of cultural safety and belonging for present and future success.
