About The Position

The Assistant Professor of Practice in Graphic Design at South Dakota State University is a full-time, nine-month position focused primarily on teaching within the graphic design curriculum. The role requires expertise in at least one disciplinary content area, such as packaging design, motion graphics, interactive design, or UX/UI design. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic and professional development of students while engaging in service to the university and community. This position aims to enhance the national and international recognition of the School of Design and its programs.

Requirements

• Terminal degree (masters or PhD) in Graphic Design or related field or international equivalent by time of appointment.
• Potential to develop and teach academic coursework in one or more of the disciplinary content areas.
• Minimum of 5 years, full-time practice in the field.
• Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

• Experience teaching Graphic Design at the university level.
• Record of service within the discipline and/or profession.
• Professional experience in one of the disciplinary content areas.
• More than 5 years full-time practice in the field or in university level teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses within the professional curriculum, including foundational courses and expertise in one of the disciplinary content areas.
• Provide service to the discipline, university, and community.
• Teach in multi-disciplinary courses within the School of Design.
