The Political Science Department at Marist College is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Science position in Comparative Politics, set to begin in Fall 2025. This role is designed for a broadly trained candidate capable of teaching both introductory and advanced courses in Global Politics and Politics of the Global South. Candidates should possess regional expertise in Latin America, Africa, and/or Asia, with the ability to teach courses across multiple regions being a significant advantage. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be prepared to teach upper-level courses in their area of specialization, which may include topics such as Democratization, Global Health, Human Rights, and Research Methods. Preference will be given to those who can also teach classes in International Relations. The position is part of a larger initiative to enhance the faculty within the Global Studies cluster, which includes collaboration with faculty from the departments of English, History, Modern Languages and Cultures, and Political Science. This initiative aims to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive academic environment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate teaching effectiveness at the collegiate level, with a Ph.D. in Political Science or International Relations being a requirement, although advanced ABD candidates will also be considered. The teaching load is typically 3-4 courses per semester, with the possibility of a reduced load for those who maintain a strong record of scholarship. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty members are expected to engage in service activities that benefit students, Marist College, and the broader community. The department currently comprises seven faculty members and offers a BA in Political Science along with a minor. It plays a vital role in interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Marist College, located along the Hudson River and in Florence, Italy, is dedicated to providing a comprehensive liberal arts education to approximately 5,000 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students, emphasizing the development of intellect, character, and skills necessary for success in a global community.
