About The Position

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics to begin in August 2025. This position involves teaching undergraduate physics courses, mentoring students in research, and contributing to the administration of the Applied Physics and Pre-Engineering program in collaboration with NC State University. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physics, particularly in experimental optics, photonics, and materials physics, and will engage in research while actively participating in university service.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in physics.
  • Research experience in experimental optics, photonics, condensed matter physics, or materials physics with an engineering focus.
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level, either as a teacher or teaching assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or interest in teaching Astronomy and Electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours of physics courses and labs per semester.
  • Mentor undergraduate research students.
  • Administer the UNCP Applied Physics and 3+2 Pre-Engineering program in collaboration with NC State University.
  • Participate in university service duties such as judging Science Fair and Robotics competitions.
  • Conduct independent research projects utilizing available instrumentation, particularly in optics.
