The School of Education Leadership, Health & Humanities at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking candidates for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Philosophy. This role is designed for a dynamic and versatile individual with a broad expertise in various philosophical disciplines. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate courses, contributing to the development of the department's curriculum, and engaging in active research. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a commitment to scholarly work, and the ability to mentor students across a wide range of philosophical topics. Teaching responsibilities may include online courses, and the areas of specialty (AOS) preferred include History of Philosophy, Environmental Philosophy, Ethics/Introduction to Philosophy, Logic, AI and Philosophy, and Healthcare Ethics. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to advise students, engage in professional affiliations as appropriate, provide service to the department, school, and university, and undertake other responsibilities as assigned. This includes organizing the annual Campus Theme Program, teaching in the Honors College, and engaging in collaborative teaching and related projects. The position requires a terminal degree (or ABD) in Philosophy or a related field from an accredited institution, along with at least two years of experience teaching in higher education. Candidates should provide documented evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly activities.
