About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Drilling Engineering) to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track, 9 month position. Primary duties will include building an independent externally-funded research program to raise the research profile of the School of Engineering, teach courses, and actively contribute to the School’s mission. A reduced teaching load is available to allow new hires to establish their research program at the university. Moreover, course buyouts are available through internal processes tied to grant funding obtained by the faculty. Duties also include participation in ABET accreditation activities, including the assessment and evaluation of student outcomes; other service responsibilities as needed by the School of Engineering including recruitment efforts and initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. We have ABET-accredited programs in Systems, Computer, and Petroleum Engineering. An M.S. in Systems Engineering will start in Fall 2026. Petroleum Engineering faculty conduct research in enhanced oil recovery, geomechanics & hydraulic fracturing, carbon storage, and enhanced geothermal systems.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely-related discipline.
  • Ability to mentor and advise students on Senior Design projects and research activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in drilling engineering areas such as drilling and cementing, well planning and design, well control, drilling fluids, drilling optimization, wellbore integrity, and drilling analytics and automation.
  • Potential to publish research in highly ranked venues.
  • Ability to teach all drilling engineering courses in the curriculum.
