About The Position

The Assistant Professor of Performing Arts - Contemporary Dance at Wichita State University is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position within the School of Performing Arts. Requirements

• Terminal degree (MFA) in Dance or a related field.
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
• Evidence of achievement in dance performance, choreography, or scholarship.
• Commitment to culturally relevant, diverse, and inclusive teaching practices.
• Experience creating original dance works with undergraduate students.

Nice To Haves

• Three years of teaching experience at a full-time or equivalent course load in higher education.
• Professional dance performance experience.
• Professional experience as a choreographer.
• Ability to create and direct original dance films/media.
• Ability to teach additional dance forms beyond contemporary/modern dance.
• Leadership experience in higher education.
• Research focused on dance practices of underrepresented groups.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in contemporary dance, modern dance forms, improvisation, choreography, and dance research methods.
• Engage in student advising, recruitment, and mentorship.
• Collaborate with students on choreographic processes for stage, film, or site-specific works.
• Participate in scholarly activities, including committee involvement and outreach initiatives.
• Foster applied learning through course design and community projects.
