The Human Nutrition Program in the Department of Human Sciences at The Ohio State University (OSU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Nutrition & Microbiome Science. We seek a scholar whose research explores the dynamic interactions between nutrition and the gut microbiome, with relevance to human health and disease prevention. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s mission through innovative research (40% effort), inclusive teaching and student mentorship (40% effort), and professional service to the institution and/or professional organizations (20% effort). Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, microbiome-mediated mechanisms of nutrition-related disorders, multi-omics approaches to personalized nutrition, and dietary modulation of gut microbial communities. This initiative is supported by the Human Nutrition Program in the Department of Human Sciences. This position requires fluency in English. The university will not sponsor candidates for work visas for this position.

  • Develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program at the intersection of nutrition and microbiome science. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent line of scholarly inquiry and build strategic collaborations across disciplines, including potential partnerships with OSU’s College of Medicine, Centers, Extension, and other units.
  • Effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in human nutrition and closely related areas. Engage in curriculum development to advance undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels to advance scholarship and career-readiness.
  • Engage in academic service, both internally and externally, to advance the missions of the Human Nutrition Program, the Department and College, and the nutrition profession.
  • PhD in human nutrition or other terminal degree closely in a related discipline with demonstrated expertise in the area of diet-gut health-human health interactions.
  • Minimum of 1-year of postdoctoral experience
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to secure extramural research funding
  • Expertise in basic science, bioinformatics, gut health, and precision nutrition
  • Interest or expertise in applying AI to pedagogy and/or scholarship, aligned with Ohio State’s hiring initiative to become a global leader in AI-driven discovery, education and societal impact (https://go.osu.edu/ai-initiative) and promote AI fluency for human thriving (https://ai.osu.edu/).
