About the position

The Assistant Professor of Nursing position is a tenure-track faculty role within the College of Nursing, focusing on the development and evaluation of the ASN and/or BSN programs. The role involves teaching, evaluating student performance, and coordinating clinical rotations. The faculty member will teach 12 credits per semester, which includes theory, clinical, skills lab, and simulation lab courses. Additionally, the position requires participation in ongoing course and curriculum revisions, community and professional activities, and student recruitment and retention efforts. The faculty member is expected to maintain scholarly and professional development activities, provide expertise in medical-surgical nursing, and contribute to the innovation and development of the nursing programs. The role also includes responsibilities related to assessment, evaluation, and accreditation of the nursing programs and the university.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development and evaluation of the ASN and/or BSN program
  • Develops, teaches, and evaluates assigned courses
  • Evaluates student performance on exams and course assignments
  • Evaluates student performance in the clinical environment, including skills lab and simulation lab
  • Assumes responsibility for serving as a course coordinator, as appropriate
  • Coordinates clinical rotation with clinical agency and clinical adjuncts
  • Teaches 12 credits per semester, including theory, clinical, skills lab, and simulation lab
  • Participates in ongoing course and curriculum revision
  • Provides engaged service at the programmatic, School, University, and community levels
  • Participates in course and programmatic assessment activities
  • Participates in community and professional activities
  • Participates in student recruitment and retention activities
  • Advises currently enrolled and prospective students
  • Maintains appropriate scholarly and professional development activities
  • Provides expertise in the area of medical-surgical nursing
  • Contributes to the continuing innovation and development of the programs in the School of Nursing
  • Participates in the assessment, evaluation, and accreditation of the School of Nursing programs and the University
  • Participates in, manages, or leads projects within the School of Nursing and University as requested
  • Performs related duties as necessary and as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD preferred, Masters of Science in Nursing required
  • Active unencumbered RN license in WV or multistate required
  • Three years experience as a RN

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred specialty certification or CNE
  • Prior teaching experience
