About The Position

Colorado Mesa University is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor of nursing or an assistant clinical professor of nursing position for the LPN to BSN Program. The LPN to BSN Program is a 1-year program with one cohort at a time. The students have passed their Licensed Practical Nursing exam and are now finishing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree to prepare for the RN NCLEX exam. The teaching responsibilities for this position are dependent on the applicant’s specialty and experiences. The standard teaching load is 12 course credit hours per semester or 24 credits over an academic year. This position has an ongoing responsibility for curriculum development, planning, teaching, guiding, monitoring, and evaluating student learning in the classroom and practice settings to improve courses and clinical experiences.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be eligible for or hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
  • Applicants must have at least two years of full-time (or equivalent) professional clinical experience in an acute or chronic care setting or varied experience in other specialties.
  • Applicants must have a graduate degree in nursing from a nationally accredited school of nursing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to the teaching of adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation, or a written plan for obtaining such knowledge, for which acquisition of these skills would begin no later than during the first year of teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching theory and clinical components in the nursing educational program at the BSN level.
  • Promoting positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, and agencies.
  • Serving as the clinical lead for the program.
  • Participating in the assessment and accreditation activities of the program, department, and university.
  • Participating in academic advising and guidance of students being mindful of the needs of students from diverse populations.
  • Attending program and department faculty meetings.
  • Establishing, posting, and keeping a minimum of five office hours weekly over four days during each term of the academic year.
  • Establishing necessary procedures to ensure that adequate and accurate records of student performance are maintained.
  • Continuing professional development in scholarship/professional productivity, teaching, and service.
  • Participating in the tenure track and/or promotion processes by active engagement in scholarly activities or professional productivity that support professional development and by providing service to the program, department, university, and external community.
  • Participating in program, department, and university events including commencement exercises.
  • Maintaining timely and satisfactory performance of responsibilities specified in the faculty member’s employment agreement and CMU Professional Employee Handbook.
