Requirements

  • Doctorate in Music degree required. Master's degree in music with significant professional experience may be considered in lieu of the doctorate.
  • History as an artist conductor with a strong commitment to education.
  • All School of Music faculty members are expected to maintain a record of service and creative/scholarly productivity that indicates continuing growth of national and international visibility.
  • The applicant must work cooperatively in a dynamic environment and be committed to undergraduate education and student success.
  • Sam Houston State University verifies the accuracy of all credentials presented by applicants and conducts a criminal background check on every new hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Texas secondary music education is desirable, and experience at both the secondary and university levels is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct the University Wind Ensemble.
  • Teach graduate courses and undergraduate classes such as music education, conducting, and others as needed by the School of Music and according to the candidate's strengths and experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the team of band directors in the overall administration of the university band program.
  • Collaborate with the music education faculty to build and maintain a productive relationship with public school music programs.
  • Recruit students for the School of Music.
  • Assist with The Center for Music Education's professional development workshops and the Master of Arts in Band Studies summer program.
