About The Position

Fort Hays State University is seeking a Modern World Historian for the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of History and Philosophy. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position that may transition to tenure track in the future. The successful candidate will focus on teaching both on-campus and online courses in global history, with a strong emphasis on Western Europe, Global History, Imperialism, and Digital Humanities. Candidates should demonstrate teaching experience or potential, service to the discipline, and scholarly achievement or potential.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in History at the time of appointment (August 2025).
  • Evidence of teaching experience or potential to be a strong educator.
  • Evidence of service to the discipline or potential to engage in service at various levels.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement or potential for scholarly achievement.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in an aspect of Global History.
  • Field in Western European Colonialism/Imperialism.
  • Experience in Digital Humanities.
  • Experience teaching historical methodology and historiography.
  • Ability to teach survey level courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 4/4 course load in both traditional and online formats.
  • Provide instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Maintain an active service contribution to the department, university, local community, and discipline.
  • Focus on global history, including historical methods, research seminars, and general education courses.
  • Demonstrate an active scholarly agenda.
