The Department of Mathematics and Applied Sciences in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU) welcomes applications for the position of Full-Time Assistant Professor of Mathematics. This is a tenure-track position.

  • Teach 12 contact hours per semester for both mathematics majors and non-majors in courses such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, and/or Introductory Computer Programming.
  • Maintain office hours for student advising as mandated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for HSSU, requiring 9.0 hours of Office Hours for a 12-credit academic load.
  • Attend the Faculty Institute Symposium each semester for essential training and other mandated meetings at the Departmental, College, and University levels.
  • Attend convocation ceremonies in December and May at the end of Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Perform evaluations of adjunct instructors, mentor and advise students, engage in academic reporting, and serve on Departmental and University Committees.
  • Earned Doctorate in Mathematics or a closely related field (such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science).
  • Candidates with a Doctorate in Mathematics Education will be considered if they have a Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field with at least eighteen credit hours of coursework in an area they will teach.
  • Strong preference for candidates who can contribute to the development of a new academic program in Data Science from a mathematical, statistical, and programming perspective.
  • Evidence of likely success in teaching students of diverse backgrounds in various mathematics courses including Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Discrete Mathematics, Modern Algebra, and Differential Equations.
