About The Position

The Department of Journalism in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Richmond is seeking to hire a full-time tenure-track professor at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. We seek a teaching practitioner who has a demonstrated track record of journalistic success in national and/or international outlets. The committee will consider suitable journalistic experience from candidates working across mediums, including, but not limited to, documentary film, audio storytelling, print, and emerging media fields. We are specifically interested in candidates whose work demonstrates independent and intrepid reporting. Our faculty strive to cultivate strong enterprise reporting skills in our students, and as such we seek a colleague who is ambitious, energetic, and committed to helping students pursue their interests and develop their talents. Candidates must have a terminal Master's degree or a PhD in a relevant field and five or more years of full-time experience in professional journalism in any medium. Experience teaching at the college level is highly valued. The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing introductory and advanced journalism courses as well as to develop new courses in their specific field of interest or expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise and mentor journalism students. The University of Richmond considers both journalistic and scholarly output as legitimate paths to tenure and promotion in the Department of Journalism.

Requirements

  • Terminal Master's degree or a PhD in a relevant field.
  • Five or more years of full-time experience in professional journalism in any medium.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
