About The Position

The School of Computing and Information Sciences (SCIS) at Willamette University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering / Operations Research to join our faculty beginning in August 2026. A Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, or closely related field is required. The successful candidate may be assigned to teach in any SCIS degree program, but they will primarily contribute to the school’s new ABET-compliant Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering and operations research. Candidates with expertise in process optimization using software (preferably FlexSim and/or Arena), stochastic processes, probability, statistics, statistical engineering, or operations research will be given special consideration. Full time faculty in SCIS typically teach 5 classes per year. We are committed to the highest quality instruction and prefer candidates who are comfortable using their research/scholarship to elevate the classroom experience for students. We also have two campuses (one in Salem, Oregon and one in Portland, Oregon), and candidates may be required to teach at both campuses in the same semester. Faculty may also be required to teach evening courses. SCIS administers several graduate and undergraduate programs within the broader university including our flagship graduate program in data science which is ranked 14th nationally by Fortune Magazine. In addition, our undergraduate programs in computer science, statistics, and data science are some of the fastest growing degrees at the university. SCIS currently serves approximately 150 undergraduate majors and 60 students in its professional master’s degree program.

  • A Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, or closely related field is required.
