About The Position

Westminster University in Salt Lake City, UT invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of History. Area of specialization is open. Broad training and ability to teach a variety of classes, especially in the Americas, is a must. The successful applicant will also have digital humanities and/or public history expertise, as well as successful teaching experience and a commitment to undergraduate liberal education. Westminster's normal teaching load is 24 semester hours per year – typically three courses per semester. Primary teaching responsibilities include introductory liberal education History courses; History methods courses; major capstone courses; and upper-division undergraduate courses in the successful candidate's area of specialization. Depending on specialization, there may be opportunities to teach in affiliated, interdisciplinary programs, such as Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, Justice Studies, and the Honors College as well as to lead field studies courses in the US and abroad. A Ph.D. degree in a history field is required. This is a 9-month position that will be focused on teaching.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in History completed no later than August 2026
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with experience as the instructor of record for multiple courses
  • Ability to employ pedagogical practices that generate active and engaged learning
  • A research agenda appropriate for a teaching-focused institution, including opportunities for undergraduate student involvement
