The Department of History in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Early American History (before 1850) to start in August 2026. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. Applicants should have an active research agenda with strong prospects for publication. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in American history by the time of appointment. The position carries a 2/2 teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 'Early Republic, 1789-1828,' 'Antebellum America,' and the first half of the American history sequence, 'History of the American People to 1877,' as well as offer instruction in areas of specialization (all specialties are welcome). The successful candidate will also be expected to direct research in the graduate and honors undergraduate programs, as well as demonstrate a commitment to mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
