About The Position

The Geosciences Department at Oberlin College is seeking a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor specializing in Paleontology/Geologic Time and Life History. This position is aimed at candidates who are passionate about teaching Earth Sciences to undergraduates and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department and the field. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, and various faculty responsibilities, contributing to the academic community and mentoring students.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Geosciences or a related field (in hand or expected by the first semester of academic year 2025).
  • Demonstrated interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a standard load of 4.5 courses per year in Paleontology/Geologic Time and Life History.
  • Develop and teach a 200-level historical geology course with a laboratory (Evolution of the Earth).
  • Propose and teach 1-2 topical introductory courses and contribute to the physical geology course.
  • Conduct sustained scholarly research and/or creative work appropriate to the position.
  • Engage in academic advising and mentoring undergraduate research.
  • Participate in departmental service and committee work.
