About The Position

George Fox University, a Christ-centered community dedicated to excellence in liberal arts and professional education, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Creative Writing (open genre) beginning in Fall 2026. Applicants should hold a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) and demonstrate excellence as artist-scholars and undergraduate teachers. We seek candidates who value and engage the full spectrum of creative expression-across commercial and literary forms alike-and who maintain an active record of publication (preferred). We particularly welcome applicants with a secondary specialization in areas such as popular culture, emerging media forms, genre writing, or global literatures.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) in English, Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered, with the expectation of completion by August 2026).
  • Expertise in creative composition, storytelling methodologies, and popular literature (e.g., genre fiction, young adult literature, graphic narratives, film/media studies).
  • Demonstrated experience writing in and navigating public-facing markets (e.g., journalism, trade publishing, media, professional communication, digital content creation).
  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
  • A desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees who represent various cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, political views, and expressions of Christian faith.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience directing students' creative projects or advising students whose work has led to publication.
  • Background in Old English and Medieval British Literature, epic literature, or historical fantasy.
  • A record of interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Administrative or entrepreneurial experience, whether within or outside academia.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a 4/4 load (four courses per semester), including courses in creative writing (e.g., fiction, narrative nonfiction, screenwriting, professional writing), core composition and first-year writing, and upper-division courses related to the candidate's specialization (e.g., popular culture literatures, genre studies, publishing).
  • Maintaining an active and productive agenda of scholarship and/or creative work that results in peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, or publicly available creative works.
  • Participating in departmental and university service, including student advising, curriculum development, and committee work.
  • Mentoring students interested in careers in writing, publishing, and the creative industries, drawing on experience in public-facing markets.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casuaql contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
