About The Position

The Department of English and Foreign Language at Livingstone College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track generalist in English who can teach classes in American and British literature and composition. The department’s curriculum offers courses in composition, critical analysis, literature, English secondary education, and creative writing. The candidate should also have expertise in a related supporting area, such as technical and professional writing, digital media, writing and technology, or other specialized sub-fields of interest. In addition, the candidate should possess a commitment to utilizing innovative teaching techniques in the instructional setting and using technology to enhance student learning, strong communication skills, and dedication to providing quality instruction for all students, as well as a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the classroom. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in English required. Applicants who are ABD and will complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered.
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience at the college or university level is required.
  • Experience teaching blended, hybrid, and online classes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 15 hours in the fall semester and 12 hours in the spring semester.
  • Hold a minimum of 8 office hours per week.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Submit timely assessment reports.
  • Advise and register students.
  • Participate in the governance and committee work of the Department, Division, and the College.
  • Use Blackboard, MS Teams, and other instructional technologies in the classroom.
  • Generate new curriculum and develop course syllabi that align with the curriculum goals and student learning outcomes in English.
  • Participate in scholarly and professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
