About The Position
The Assistant Professor of English in Rhetoric and Composition Studies at Jacksonville State University is a full-time, tenure-track position set to commence in August 2025. This role is designed for candidates specializing in Developmental/Basic Writing, and the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a range of courses from introductory to graduate levels, including First-Year Writing, speech, and literature. The position emphasizes adherence to departmental practices and policies, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with the educational goals of the department. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member is expected to engage in scholarly research that meets the standards for tenure and advancement within the university. This includes contributing to the academic community through research publications and presentations. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in English with a focus on Developmental/Basic Writing by the appointment date, demonstrating a strong capability to teach composition, particularly in developmental and basic writing contexts. Evidence of excellent teaching skills and scholarly potential is also a critical requirement for this position. Preference will be given to candidates who have additional expertise in TESOL/ESL/Second Language Studies and/or writing across the curriculum, reflecting the department's commitment to diverse teaching methodologies and student engagement.
