The Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2026, specializing in 20th- and 21st-century British literature, with an emphasis on literatures of the diaspora. We are especially interested in applicants whose research and teaching interests place twentieth- and twenty-first century British literature in a global context, including postcolonial and decolonial studies, diaspora and migration studies, settler-colonial studies, and critical ethnic studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate research and teaching interests in the literature of territories affected by Britain's colonial projects; we particularly encourage those with a focus on African Anglophone literature to apply. The teaching load is four courses per year with the expectation that new faculty will eventually supervise graduate research. Ph.D. is required and must be in hand by the time of appointment.
