About The Position

The Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at Springfield College invites applications for the open position of Assistant Professor of Data Science. This is an exciting time to join the MPCS department. MPCS is seeking dynamic individuals who are dedicated to teaching with a strong interest in curriculum development, and seeks a highly collaborative and creative environment. Springfield College is launching a Data Science program in Fall 2026 and seeks colleagues with a forward-looking vision in the data sciences fields. Data science will join the existing major in Computer and Information Sciences as well as Interdisciplinary pathways in Computer Science plus Criminal Justice and English. MPCS also delivers minors in computer science, programming, web design and animation. To this end, we welcome applicants from any discipline in the Data Science realm, with preference given to those who have an expertise in Statistics and Probability Theory or Machine Learning. Springfield College faculty are expected to strive for excellence in instruction, scholarship and service and embrace the colleges' "Humanics" approach to education, enriching students through a time-honored tradition of Spirit, Mind and Body. The main role of the successful candidates will be to teach 12 credits per semester in the department, teaching courses in data science, probability and computer science applications. Scholarship and contributions to the professional community are expected, and preference will be given to candidates who can strive to incorporate undergraduates into their respective scholarly work.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Data or Computer Science required
  • College level teaching experience required
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to equity in the classroom

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D in Computational Science or related field preferred
  • Active research agenda or evidence of research potential is preferred
  • ABD candidates are welcome to apply

Responsibilities
