About The Position

The Assistant Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Plymouth State University is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, maintaining a research agenda, advising students, and contributing to university service. The role emphasizes excellence in teaching and research, particularly in the area of Corrections, and is set to commence in August 2025.

Requirements

  • PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline (ABD candidates will be considered).
  • Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching with evidence from colleagues and students.
  • Skills in academic advising and mentoring students.
  • Evidence of an active research agenda.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach multiple core courses in the criminology and criminal justice programs.
  • Preference for candidates with expertise in Corrections.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
  • Experience integrating technology into the classroom to enhance student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses in Criminology/Criminal Justice.
  • Establish and maintain an active research agenda.
  • Advise students on academic and career matters.
  • Contribute to discipline and university service.
