About The Position

The Division of Mathematics and Computer Science at Maryville College, a selective four-year liberal arts college committed to superior teaching, invites applications for a full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Computer Science position beginning in August 2026. Qualified candidates will have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting and previous teaching experience is preferred. A Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field is required; ABD in the final stages of completion will also be considered. Interest and experience in data science or cybersecurity is a plus. Teaching responsibilities include courses in programming, software design and development, database management, theory of computation, and supervision of senior projects. Additional responsibilities include advising students, participation in college governance, and may include coaching the programming team. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage and support students through innovative, evidence-based pedagogy and a commitment to mentoring students from their first year through graduation. The Scots Science Scholars program, a federally grant-funded program, supports our students by creating community and providing robust academic support. Strengths of the computer science program at Maryville College have included quality undergraduate research, placement of students in internships at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and competitive programming teams. Our new colleague will have the opportunity to shape the computer science program moving forward by teaching a variety of undergraduate courses, developing new courses, supervising student research in their areas of expertise, and, with the help of the Career Center, developing community and industry partnerships to provide collaborative opportunities. This is an exciting time for the Division as the College begins construction of the Alexander Institute for Conservation and Leadership in the Sciences, a building that will provide new office, laboratory, and classroom space for us and facilitate opportunities for outreach to the wider community. Founded in Maryville, Tenn., in 1819, Maryville College is one of the oldest baccalaureate-granting institutions of higher learning in the South. Consistently ranked in the top tier of regional colleges and universities, it offers a curriculum notable for its strong liberal arts core program, undergraduate research requirement and emphasis on career preparation.
