About The Position

LAKELAND UNIVERSITY, an independent liberal arts institution located in east central Wisconsin, invites applications from a diverse group of qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Computer Science to begin between January and August, 2026. Lakeland seeks a candidate committed to serving a diverse student community with varied experience and ability levels. The candidate will teach a range of introductory and upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses within computer science, data science, and cybersecurity, as well as general education programs as needed. The coordination and supervision of student Co-Op and internships is also expected, with the faculty member serving as a liaison between the student and employer. This is a full-time, renewable, tenure-track position with a 24-credit teaching load expectation and nine-month contract. A doctoral degree in computer science or closely related degree is required for the rank of assistant professor and tenure. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a terminal degree in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates who are ABD and making satisfactory progress toward completion will also be considered.
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry credentials and certifications such as Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Professional, Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year, comprised of computer science courses including Cybersecurity, Data Structures, Programming Languages, Object-Oriented Programming, Architecture, and more.
  • Advise students as assigned.
  • Coordinate and supervise student internship and/or cooperative education experiences appropriate for computer and data science majors.
  • Work with the division chair and deans to identify appropriate adjunct instructors for the computer and data science programs.
  • Teach in both traditional and hybrid learning environments.
  • Maintain oversight and inventory of the computer lab.
  • Lead assessment activities for the program wherever coursework is delivered.
  • Hold regular office hours on a weekly basis.
  • Respond in a timely manner to calls or emails from students, colleagues, or supervisors.
  • Participate in institutional service opportunities as assigned.
  • Use university technology as directed.
