About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at East Central University (ECU) seeks qualified applicants for a tenure-track, if eligible, Assistant Professor in Computer Science to include exemplary teaching; curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation; directing undergraduate research and possible web course development. The ECU Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is a cross-disciplinary department containing programs in both mathematics and computer science. Our faculty pride themselves on the academic environment fostering a community of learning and support. ECU encourages faculty participation in high-impact student experiences such as undergraduate research. ECU is classified as a minority-serving primary undergraduate institute and carries a NASNTI Designation by the Department of Education. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to further ECU’s Mission and Vision to foster a diverse learning experience by providing an engaging, inclusive and supportive community of learning to elevate the student experience.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related degree (ABD will be considered).
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, with a preference for experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of potential for sustained scholarly activity.
  • A strong commitment to excellence in teaching, academic advising, and student engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a collegial academic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with a proven record of scholarly activities (including but not limited to publications, scientific presentations and grant writing).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering instruction in online and hybrid learning environments.
  • Experience designing and developing online courses aligned with Quality Matters or comparable instructional design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses, including general education as well as entry and upper-level CS core and elective courses. Standard faculty load is 12 credit hours each semester.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and maintain an active research agenda.
  • Provide meaningful service to the university, including department, college, and university committees.
  • Advise students and contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Department Chair and Dean of College of Health and Science or designee.
