About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Barry University invites applications for a full-time, continuing-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science. While the position is primarily intended for the rank of Assistant Professor, exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be considered. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s mission of providing a transformative educational experience through teaching, research, and service. The position emphasizes excellence in undergraduate instruction, curriculum development, and student mentorship. The department is experiencing growth, and this position is part of a broader initiative to expand our academic offerings and research capabilities. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is In-Person Work Environment: Small class sizes (15:1 student-faculty ratio). Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (ABD considered if degree will be completed by start date).
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and service.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with interdisciplinary teaching or research.
  • Familiarity with Barry’s mission and values, including social justice and community engagement.
  • Ability to teach specialized courses in cybersecurity, data analytics, or digital media.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Computer Science, including but not limited to: Programming (Python, Java, JavaScript), Databases, Data Communications, Data Science.
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda in areas such as: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Machine Learning.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students, including supervising research projects.
  • Participate in curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in departmental, college, and university service.
  • Collaborate with community partners and contribute to mission integration activities.
