About The Position

The Department of Communication within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member specializing in Communication law, ethics, policy, or related areas, with a start date in August 2025. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the policy and regulation of new and emerging communication technologies. The University of Tampa, a medium-sized private institution with over 10,000 students, is located on a picturesque 110-acre campus adjacent to Tampa's vibrant central business district. The university has experienced 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth and boasts a diverse student body representing 50 states and over 100 countries, along with a strong ranking in U.S. News and World Report. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, maintain an active record of scholarship, participate in academic advising, and engage in service to the department, college, university, and broader community. We welcome innovative pedagogies and varied research agendas, particularly those that can enhance the critical and cultural diversity within the Communication and Media Studies curriculum. This includes updating existing courses and proposing new ones as necessary. A Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment. The teaching load for this position is three (3) four-credit hour courses per semester. The Communication Department at The University of Tampa offers four vibrant majors: Communication and Media Studies (CMS), Advertising and Public Relations, Communication and Speech Studies, and Journalism. Additionally, the department plays a significant role in delivering the Master of Arts in Social and Emerging Media and the Master of Arts in Professional Communication. The CMS curriculum is designed to explore critical perspectives on media, culture, and political economy, preparing students for creative production practices.
