About The Position

Oglethorpe University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication, Film, and Media Studies to start in Fall 2025. The role involves teaching a variety of courses in media studies, digital/social media, public speaking, and media history/theory, with a focus on digital pedagogy. The position also includes engaging in university service and maintaining an active research agenda.

Requirements

  • PhD in communication, film, or media studies (or a closely related discipline) required by August 2025.
  • Relevant teaching experience in media studies and digital pedagogy.
  • A coherent research agenda.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching courses such as Digital Storytelling, Television Analysis, Media, Culture, and Society, Critical History of Radio, TV, and New Media, Sports Communication, and Latinx Media.
  • Interest in collaborating with local community members for learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full-time course load of 3/3 in Communication, Film, and Media Studies.
  • Engage in regular service to the university.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Teach in the Adult Degree Program during evening hours.
  • Contribute to departmental and university service initiatives.
  • Mentor and advise students from diverse backgrounds.
